The taste of Main Street Single Malt Ale is something akin to a kölsch or altbier. There’s something Germanic in the yeast. At least, that’s what I tasted in it. The single malt is Simpson’s Golden Promise and the single hops are Fuggles. Since these ingredients both originate in the UK, I feel obliged to call it a pale ale, though my palate thinks differently.

What’s striking about Single Malt is its lightness and clarity. It looks like a glass of water held before a distant oak panel. It’s very thin bodied, pale, headless, and laceless too. An agreeable beer with a perplexing character.
