Just had on-tap... glad after hearing about it long ago... it was still there.
- Looks more like an amber... dark clear caramel.... nice thin layer of head that stuck around.... a very standard looking Red/Amber.
- Nice smooth sweetness and hop presence. Light caramel, bitter hop... some pine, grass, floral notes....
- A very good red ale... though for me not an imperial. This would make a great standard red ale of theirs. Not quite a double. Smooth malt backbone, caramel... sweet grain, some oat-like qualities.. and a nice pine and floral hop.
- Medium bodied... smooth and superb.
- Overall a very good red ale, and easy to drink. What I like about 4th St's. brews is the fact that they are so drinkable. This doesn't hit the stated 9.5% mark on alcohol at all.... and frankly, they overshoot the Alc. content on a lot of their beers. Perhaps that is what their overall goal is. But for a standard red... it's a great beer.
