I had a pint of this beer at Brewdebakers tap and grill, in halifax where it is brewed on sight (what is the maritime beer co.'s connection to sleeman/saporo?) a decent pub i would recomend visiting if in halifax area.
Appearance: very dark (too dark for a cream ale) copper, almost orange. creamy head with rather good retention. highly carbonated.
Smell:Mildly malty, rather assertive hop profile. subtle plum-like fruitiness.
Taste: mild malt flavour, assretive (too much so) citrusy hoppyness.
Mouthfeel: creamy yet light. highly carbonated.
drinkability: a decent brew, definatly not my favorite but pretty good.
what's up with the extra dark color of this "cream ale"? absolutly off target for the style.

One of the Ice house ales I encountered in Lunenberg paired up with a plate of oysters.
Poured a bright copper color with a 1 finger tan cap fair retention and lacing...
very mild aroma; smokey caramel and some grass.
Medium body fair malt spine smokey-sweet character mild mouth feel.
Started sweetish, caramel, friuty, then a tad of toast and smoke, fast wet clean finish and mild biscuit after tastes.
One of the best commercial beers I have tasted in NS.

Traded for a bottle with a friend. Not that you can't get it anywhere in Halifax, but still. I used to drink this a lot when I was first getting into good beer.
Appearance: Pours a reddish brown colour with a modest white head which diminishes into a lace ring.
Aroma: Citrusy with some grass and florals.
Taste: Very sweet tasting. You can also taste the fruitiness along with some caramel. Does not have a particularly long finish, but it tastes pretty good.
Mouthfeel: Little over carbonated, mouthfeel a tad too thin.
Final Statement: This is a decent beer, but doesn't really strike that same chord as well crafted beers. Decent enough crossover, better than regular Sleeman products. It's worth a try, especially if you're just getting into real beer.

Pours a dark amber with a thick off-white head that dissipates fairly quickly. Smells of malty sweetness with caramel and some fruity notes as well. Tastes malty with the caramels coming through, and has some alcohol and metallic hints as well. Mouthfeel is creamy, though perhaps a little flat, but it is still quite good. Drinkability is solid, but unexceptional for an ale of this sort. A nice choice, but not superb.

Clear, bright amber hue, big, but quickly crumbling cream-toned head, fiercely active, twisting down to nothing in an instant...
Aroma: quiet, soft, but sweet, fruity, malty, scant hops, if any...
Taste: starts smooth on entering the mouth, but becomes flinty and bland, hollow, yielding small fruity flavors, but then jump off the palate immediately. While it lasts, it's a decent enough treat, but wholly forgettable.
For those with low expectations only.

Good thing I trained my bro to find rare treats if he's going somewhere very far. He picked up a couple of rare treats and this is one of them. He had the black pearl stout on-tap and it was to die for at PEI (Prince Edward Island).
Comes in a 341mL bottle (12oz) with a golden label and an eight ball on the top of the label and black pearl in black lettering. Pours out a nice orange/amber color with some nice carbonation with goes to lacing around the glass eventually. Tiny little bubbles. Smell consisted of malts, caramel, slight hints of cream and vanilla also in the mix nicely. Smell was on the sweet side as well. Taste was quite good. Malty sweetness throughout. Only a little bit of caramel was noticeable which was a little bit of a surprise because the nose had quite a bit of it in it. Some slight hints of vanilla and cream mingle around the palate as well. Finishes quite chewy which was nice to see. I would say in the beginning the body was light, but at the end it was medium-heavy which was surprising from a 5.3% abv beer. This beer has my thumbs up. I bet this beer on tap would blow me away most likely. Quite balanced and worth hunting for. Good thing I have a few bottles left.

Presentation: 12oz brown twist-off bottle with an ominous looking label. A glistening black pearl rests in front of murkfull background. Notes about their other brews are listed on the labels sides as well as a freshness date.
Appearance: Pure amber in colour with a wispy, and an almost white, creamed lace head.
Smell: Deep caramel aromas, fruity esters, all of which mingle with a touch of alcohol. Faint noble hop aroma.
Taste: Malty, caramel, sweet, creamy and smooth with a pronounced chewy malt mouthfeel. You can definitely pickup on an alcohol presence and a very clean, but mild, hop leaf bitterness. Finishes with the hop flavour and a touch of caramel from the big malt additions.
Notes: This is darker than a typical cream ale and slightly stronger at 5.3%abv. But who the hell cares? This is a delicious, nicely balanced mature beer. We are surprised Manni even parted with these samples!
