A biere de garde that isn't that strong in ABV. It doesn't have a strong bite that some have. A nice smooth flavor. Overall a good beer to drink and enjoy.

big thanks to scott for hosting a mini-tasting and pulling this treat out. poured a deep orange color with a thin fizzy head. the smell is pretty thick and syrupy. the taste matches the nose and also is pretty thick and syrupy with some soft fruitiness and caramel malts. the feel was also big and thick. overall this was not bad, but at the same time, not amazing. thick and rich and filling. this one was not a winner in the group, but i seemed to enjoy it a bit more than the others.

The color when poured was a hazy caramel brown with loads of white foam and plenty of lace on the side of the glass. The smell had a sort of weak roasted malt and caramel aroma. The taste was sort of the same as the aroma, roasted malts and a carmel flavor. But, very bitter and sour aftertaste on the palate and a long bitter/sour finish. Very disappointed for the amount that this 705ml cost me!

I was really looking forward to this bottle, but in the end it didn't live up to expectations. The appearance was fine. A coppery brew with a big head looked the part. The aroma was deep in fermented grains. Musty notes lingered about too. The flavor mimicked the nose. Cellar-like grains laid flat across the palate. A little earthiness toward the end. Overall this beer was sweeter and lighter than I expected for the style.

A-Pours a thin copper color, medium head with plenty of lace.
S- Smells of butter, toffee and caramel with some light malt thrown in.
T-Based on the smell I was expecting a lot more on the flavor end. Fruit and malt is about all I am getting and it seems to fall flat at somepoint.
M- Again I was hoping for more from this brew but it is a little light and thin. Seems to really dissapear without leaving much of an impression
O- Disappointing beer. I expected much more flavor than it delivered.

All in all a good beer that does not blow me away in any one category. It is light and a bit sweet and almost fruity, but pleasant and easy to drink. It does coat the palate and the after taste is pleasant. Although I'm drinking this for the first time in February, I would consider this a warmer weather beer. I'll try to upload a picture.

The numbers say it all: like my college GPA, this is a solidly average beer. The ABV, while reasonably low, feels even lower than listed; the rather flat body and malty tones make this an easy slammer if you're looking for something to slam that has a foreign name. Not much to recommend, but this also isn't something to run from when you see it on the shelf at the store.
