June 2013: 750 ml corked & caged bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård, as Vieux Lille Blonde Triple Bière de Garde. ABV is 8.5%. Deep golden colour, moderate white head. Lovely aroma, farmhouse kitchen and ripe slightly oxidised fruits. Distinctly fruity and fairly sweet and mildly spicy flavour.

Caged and corked 750mL bottle poured into a Karmeleit tulip glass. Best before 31/10/14. Batch L774/16/04/13 on the cage top.

Appearance: Cloudy gold to light amber beer with a massive thick rocky white head. Thick strands of persistent lacing. Head died back to a 1/8" persistent white head over time - took quite awhile for the foam upon pouring to die back. Nice looking beer.

Smell: Apple, hints of yeast, floral.

Taste: Lots of flavors going on here. Fruity (definite Belgian yeast style fruity esters), tart citrus notes, alcoholic notes, bitter finish followed by a lingering candi sugar finish after the quick bitter finish. One of the few beers I've had that finishes sweet and lingers sweet for a few seconds afer the swallow. Tasty and very interesting that it tastes different than it smells.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, slick, a little bit sticky. Mild carbonation as the beer warms up, just right carbonation when first poured. A bit warm and spicy on the tongue as the beer warms up.

Overall / Drinkability: A very good beer. Went well with Indian food. Refreshing, tasty, and I wish I had another bottle to enjoy. A great French beer.

Bomber style bottle, corked and caged. Label says Comte de Flandre Vieux Lille Blonde Triple. Pours into the tulip a light clear amber with a lot of head, maybe 3 fingers, butnot much staying power. No lacing, and just a thin white cap of foam. Pretty average, darker than most Biere de Garde.

It smells like strong apple cider. Alcohol is present and I get some apples and some spice too, as well as a little bit of orangey citrus. Better than average.

Semi-sweet grainy body with some fruity notes in the forefront, apples, pears, apricots and melons, then finishing dry with spicy warming alcohol. Cloves and cinnamon, almost like mulling spices. One of the nicer and more complex Biere de Gardes.

It's a little too carbonated at first, but mellows out as it warms up. Light for the ABV, just enough slick viscosity to make it interesting.

Pretty good for the style, up there with the best I've tried in fact. Drinkable and fruity, would pair nicely with some pork and a salad.
