From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #61 (Feb 2012):
LOOK: Lightly hazed dull amber
SMELL: Dried grass, baked apples, earthy, faintly biscuity, floral, lemongrass
TASTE: Toasted grain, hop spice, dried grass, biscuits, apple skin, herbal, nutty,
yeast, dry finish
We’ve got a bit of a malt bomb here; pretty rustic as well. While it might lack a
clean finish, its complexity makes up for it. And there’s not many examples of the
style available in the US, so those looking to broaden their palate should give
this Vienna Lager a try.

Saw this odd beer in the cooler at Crater, one of my old haunts. Why not...
Pours into a stemmed glass a murky muddy brown shade with floating chunks, uh oh. Do I have to drink this? Eh, here goes nothing.
Smells slightly sweet and dextrinous, bready and grainy, vague apple.
Tastes ok, medium bodied and mainly with flavors of grainy bread and a little sugar cookie sweetness. Seems to getting a little long in the tooth though. Last time I buy an Italian lager in a mini wine magnum bottle...

I've not been too impressed by Italian beers so far, yes some have been good but they're usually so overpriced it's not nearly worth it. This, on the other hand, was pretty cheap so hopefully tasty enough to redeem my thoughts on beers from Italy.
Pours a huge fluffy fizzy 2 finger head that fades fairly quickly at first then slows, and leaves lots of lacing, with a dusty orange slight coppery colored semi hazy beer.
Nose comes on with a Euro lager, very fruity, almost fruit cake like fruitiness, as well as light German lager like crispness and sweet like malts, slight reddish coppery Munich like malts, toasty, with hints of baked apples and raisins, fig, pear, nuts, etc... at first the nose was a bit too fruity and almost seemed extract like, but the more I nosed it the more I got typical aromas, nice fruits normally with Euro and Venna style lagers, and nice malts.
Taste again starts with a Euro style lager, Vienna style possible but a bit over the top for that I think. Malts come toasty, slightly reddish with Munich malts, and light sweet coppery malts. Then fruity flavors, again with apple, fig, raisin, pear like lager fruits almost fruit cake like as well. A bit of bitterness comes through with some grassy slight fruity hops. A light crispness adds to the experience with a slight creamy malt and fluffy like flavor. Finish adds a bit more bitterness, more grassy fruity hops that want to hint at spicy but can't quite get there, and some lingering fruity flavors, crisp lager, and pretty dry.
Mouth is lighter bodied, decent carb.
Overall not bad, if this were a $25 bottle I'd be very disappointed, but a $3.50 bottle this is quite nice. A typical Euro style like Vienna possibly lager with lots of lager fruits, nice crispness, copper sweet reddish malts that almost seem to get extract like taste but don't quite, and a nice crisp dry lager overall profile. The hops are interesting as well, with fruity and light grassy flavor and decent bitterness. Overall not a bad beer, and fairly drinkable.
