Thick, dark red-amber body with a yellowish flat filmy head. The flatness is unsurprising, of course for a big beer like this (this batch was apparently clocked at a very respectable 7.5%). Fine bubbles coming up if you look closely.
Roasted toffee characters. Burnt sugar, malt, charred potatoes on the nose. Caramelly, and pleasant, although not quite as rich as it might have been.
Pretty rich, burnt malty character on the palate as well. Nice sweet malt initially, and the alcohol is very well hidden - it's pretty much just malt, a little bit roasted, rich, but not overpowering. Mouthfeel is definitely a little thin, which is a shame.
Not bad overall. It's not, perhaps as complex and deep as a beer of this strength should be, but it's very drinkable for its ABV, and pretty well crafted.

Great appearance. Deep brown with ruby edges. Good head retention and lacing and all that. Bockish at times, toffee/caramel, nuts. Lightly sticky, but dry and smooth for the most part, some light roast to finish off aswell. Nice soft, clean, tasty and good value at 3 dollars a schooner.
