Presentation: It was poured from a growler which I had filled up at the Flying Bison Brewery.
Appearance: The body has a deep mahogany color with bright crimson highlights when held up to the light. With a fairly aggressive pour it makes a two finger tall head on top that quickly settles down to a small ring of foam with a thin film island of tine bubbles in the middle. There is some spotty slick lacing that slides down the glass as I drink.
Smell: There is a nice sweet malty character with some nice caramel, dark chocolate and vanilla notes with some very light mineral like and herbal hop notes underneath.
Taste/Palate: It has fairly light body for a Brown Ale with nice chocolaty and bready maltiness. The vanilla bean is subtle but it still adds another nice tasty layer of flavor. I am also picking up some slight maple like notes as well. Hop flavor is very mild and only shows up briefly in the finish. It finishes quickly with mild hop bitterness and dry cocoa powder tones.
Notes: I have had a few beers that were way over loaded with vanilla and end up tasting like Coca-Cola. This one got it right in my humble opinion. Also its body is quite easy to drink which is good on a hot day like today. Well done!!!
