Auerbock exceptional clarity made it appear like the tulip glass was made out of a stained wood. Its deep amber with hints of red produced a unique color that set it apart from most bocks.
The aroma carried from the glass began to reveal the story of the grains. A sweet, light almost maple undertone mixed with a roasted quality of a good 10-grain bread. This was only accented buy a slight spicy note from the hops.
A initial sweetness of the tongue is met with a warm soothing caramel that helps to balance the alcohol. A good roasted bitter quality brings up the rear and creates a well rounded flavor profile.
Head retention was exceptional! The beer could sit 10 minutes and still be carbonated (true of German style beer).
The dryness from lagering brought by the lack of residual sugars yielded a balance to the beer that gave it an appealing quality to all drinkers. This is a good example of bock beer (Thanks Destiny!)

Alewife and I pulled into the Burlington Hearth on 11APR10 for a couple of rounds before finding some dinner. We both opted to go with the bock as our first bier. Served in a 12oz tulip for $4.00.
This was a deep, clear mahogany, with some garnet (red?) highlights. Should have called this Red Auerbock... Head was at a minimum, basically a few edge bubbles, with hardly any lace at all. Nice malt comes in the aroma, with some caramel, though it's not too strong overall. Body is decently medium, with a smooth feel. Not much to prickle the tongue, which is fine by me.
Good toastiness comes out at the start, with lightly sweet malts lending some caramel here. A touch of toffee is also present as it warms, with a hint of nuttyness. Very light floral hops contribute to the dry finish. A decent bock, overall, and it improves with warmth. Prosit!

Pours a beautiful ruby red color into my glass, accentuated by a thin head.
Aroma is full of a hint of raisin and plum, not too sweet.
Taste is full of malt sweetness that carries raisin undertones. A tad dry. Slightly crisp.
Mouthfeel is silky and very little lingers for flavors.
Well-crafted example. Only gripe is that 4 bones for a 6.5 percent beer in a 12oz glass is a bit much. Still worth a try, perhaps in a half.

On tap at American flatbread, poured in a wine glass.
Pours a rich deep ruby with a very thin almost white head. Nose is sweet and malty, very nice. After a while I realized how red this thing is, almost like a white zin or something.
Taste is sweet and slightly fruity. Has a light mouthfeel with a light crisp maltiness. Real easy drinker!
