sampled on tap at the brewpub june 1/2010.
pours deep dark red, almost brown if not held to light. nearly clear with nice ruby and garnet hues. a big fine dark tan head forms, dropping fairly fast and leaving spotty lace.
aroma is nice. sweet caramel and toffee. raisin, date, and a bit of fig. light alcohol. multi-grain bread and biscuit. hint of toasty character.
taste is good. sweet caramel and toffee up front. date and raisin. bit of fig. light alcohol. whole wheat bread and biscuit. lightly toasted. low bitterness level. hints of cocoa. earthy.
mouthfeel is nice. the carbonation was about medium-high level to start and i found that a bit high, but it mellowed closer to medium level fairly quickly. nice big body.
drinkability is good. a touch sweet, but as it warms it fills out and balances well. the beer really starts to shine when you're getting close to the bottom of the glass, with the carbonation largely dissipated and the temperature closer to room levels.

Pours a dark, dark red color with a thin head into my glass. Good presentation.
Aroma is full of raisin, plum and a slight hint of cocoa (?). About right there.
Taste is strong and slightly hot with raisin, plum and cocoa as the primary flavors. Good mix here. Slightly chewy as well.
Mouthfeel is basically the above-mentioned flavors that cling to the throat.
Well done here. Drinkable and not high in abv. Slightly deceptive. Certainly something to celebrate about!
