On tap at Zero Gravity Craft Brewery in Burlington, VT.
This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.
This smells like roasted malt, caramelized sweetness, coffee, and dark chocolate.
I wouldn't necessarily be able to tell that this was made with plantains or cascara. There's a bit of caramelized sweetness that might come from the fact that the plantains were grilled. There's lots of roasted malt here, some almost vanilla-like sweetness, some dark fruit, a hint of booze, and lots of chocolate.
This is medium bodied, a bit sweet, with a decent drinkability.
I really like the idea behind this one, and it was mostly executed as it wanted to be. Plantains don't have a super strong and distinct flavor to them, at least compared to bananas, so I'm not surprised they weren't immediately apparent in the taste. I think they just gave the beer a doughy and caramelized sweetness here.
