On cask at the brewpub. An opaque black beer with the faintest wisp of head, which quickly vanishes, leaving no trace. No lace. Looks totally still.
Nice roasty aroma with bittersweet chocolate underneath. Mildly, gently aromatic.
The taste follows the nose, with foremost the roasted flavor, then the bitter chocolate, and a very modest amount of sweetness and milkiness.
Very soft, rounded mouthfeel. Thin bodied, with little carbonation but just enough to prevent it from being watery. Medium short finish. Extremely easy to drink.
They really nailed this style. Certainly nothing profound but beautiful in its simplicity and drinkability.

Rich, dark charcoal black with thin cap of creamy khaki head. Scent is of roasted grain, cocoa powder and baking chocolate. Taste is much less sweet than expected with bitter roasted grain and the chocolate notes more towards bitter dark and baking chocolate, faint hint of milk chocolate and chocolate milk as the bitterness subsides from initial sips and some dark cherry like fruitiness. Medium to full bodied, grainy and powdery on the palate despite its smoothness, dryer for the style. Overall, one of the better beers available during this visit.
