‘Tis the season for a ‘Celebration Strength’ Lager Beer. Bold and delicious, perfect for the long cold nights of the holiday season.

A strong lager brewed with Weyermann Pilsner, Weyermann Vienna, Rahr Pale Ale, TF Crystal 45, Flaked Maize malts, hopped with Perle, Tettnanger, Hallertau Mittelfruh, and fermented with a House Lager strain.

With a pint can emptied entirely into a clear glass liter mug, it begins. It sure does look like a lager by the pour. There's a modest just-off-white and seemingly enduring proper head on top of a brightly colored and relatively clear, richly amber colored liquid. Not particularly aromatic, there's some malt sweetness and standard lager hops to sense. It tastes like an ordinary commercial American Lager, with a little more intensity. Somehow, the slightly higher than usual for the style ABV augments both the malty sweetness and hoppy bite. There's a Pilsner aspect to the taste that, for lack of a better reference might be considered nutty. But, that's a minor inclusion, as this tastes like an American Lager, only richer and better. The mouthfeel is smooth, yet light, considering a slightly yeasty aftereffect. Although the glass lacing isn't particularly impressive, it does stratify. For something in a category that rarely deserves the highest praises from discerning beer drinkers, this is remarkably good. Best of all, it's extraordinarily drinkable and much better than the ratings categories will give it credit.

Can purchased at Fattey Beer Company in Rochester, NY.

This one pours a light orange-ish color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

This smells slightly herbal and piney, with some caramel, breadiness, and a touch of grapefruit.

This is pretty unique and doesn’t really fit into any typical style guidelines. It’s got a nice fresh pine note to it, hoppy but not overwhelmingly so, with some orange marmalade, caramel, and a nice toasty breadiness.

This is medium bodied, clean, crisp, and quite drinkable.

It’s not often that I have something completely unique any more – I like this.

Can. Bright gold with lasting ring and island and a little lace like a maibock. Spicy hop aroma hints of ginger ale. Very sweet lightly toasted malts. And I thought that before I looked up that it had flaked corn in it. Spicy hop gingery bitterness with lingering sweetness and ginger. Lively carbo medium body. Decent but two sweet. I was expecting more of a caramelly double bok.

Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear deep golden color with a one finger head of white foam. The head fades rather quickly, leaving a touch of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is strong of a caramel, maple syrup, and toffee smell mixed with notes of pine and a light earth. Along with these comes notes of corn and a bit of dough.
Taste – The taste begins with a sweet malty flavor with a good deal of caramel and toffee mixed with a bready and doughy malt flavor. There is a touch of sweet corn and notes of herbal and pine hop. As the taste advances the bready and sweet get more intense leaving one with a slightly sweeter and malty taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – the body of the brew is slightly thicker and more chewy with a moderate carbonation level.
Overall – A rather tasty lager overall. A bit more malty and sweet, but very balanced and approachable.

A moderate through-the-head pour released three fingers of white soapy foam with above average retention, a cap lasts yet no lacing. Clear deep golden straw body, yellow gold in sunlight.

Mild smell of German hops (floral and herbal) and bready malt (toasted and fresh baked white bread, some biscuit and very faint doughy yeast). Alcohol is barely detectable.

Neutral taste with medium-low bitterness at first, hop flavor is medium and now mostly floral. Balanced bready malt flavors prevail with a hint of corn. The middle is a bit grainy with a hint of apple a stone fruit. The finish is semi dry with a steep rise in hop flavor; overall bitterness reaches a tad above average. Again, alcohol is well hidden for 6.3% ABV.

Medium light bodied with soft and lasting carbonation, balanced well considering that four malts are involved. It mostly resembles a strong Helles Lager. Balanced, smooth and quaffable, "Celebration Strength Winter Lager" states the label. I could not agree more.
