A new one on-tap at First St. here in town. Comes out a deep black with a thick off-white head on top. A subtle smokiness to the aroma. Singed wood, roasted malts, and dark chocolate.
Creamy body, has plenty of depth. A great supper on this chilly afternoon. A little more of the smokey character comes forward in the flavor, but it doesn't overpower at all. Adds a nice background to the chocolate dry malt flavor that this normally has. Mild tartness in there as well gives it a subtle fruit aspect thy improves the base beer as well. I like this and hope to see it around more often.

On tap at Sam's in Durham
Pours an opaque black with a smallish head. Smell is big on chocolate and malts..not much smoke. Taste is extremely smooth with a ton of chocolate and again, a very light to non existent smoke. This is a plus for sure! Medium bodied with mild carbonation. Super creamy feel.
Overall extremely enjoyable. I wanted a 2nd pint right away.

This years addition of the "Paul's Holiday" beers.Pours a deep dark chocolate brown with a thinner deep beige head atop.Aromas of char and smoke mixed with deep chocolate tones.Hardwood smoke flavors are large and in charge along with char and earth at the onset, it melds into some mild chocolate and molasses sweetness as it warms a little, more dryer earthiness in the finish.A very solid smoked porter, the smoke is big, but I like it that way.
