Transcribed from notes dtd F, 29 Oct 2010.

A nice finger of soapy mocha-tan head upon presentation that hung in as best it could. Color was a deep, dark-brown with cola highlights at the edges. Nose was rich with coffee, leading me to wonder about its production – whose coffee did they use and what process did they use to do it? Mouthfeel was slightly full and I was reminded of Turkey Hill’s Choco-Peanut Butter Swirl ice cream from my youth, in terms of its taste. Rich? Like Croesus! Call this my Hallowe’en treat. Finish had a lingering oiliness, like peanut butter left to separate. This beer left me licking my lips for a while afterward, like a dog with a wad of peanut butter in the roof (woof!) of its mouth.

Duck Rabbit Coffee Milk Stout - 5.7% Had at Lititz cask ale festival 10/29/10. Very dark with small tan head. Strong aroma of alcohol and coffee. I was worried this would be way to hot based on the smell but it wasn't at all. Taste is silky chocolate and coffee, more like you would expect at 5.7% abv. Good offering from Duck Rabbit but not as drinkable as the other stouts I had on cask here.

Had this on 2010-10-29 at the Bulls Head Public House "Real Ale" festival in Lititz, PA

A - Deep, dark brown with a short, tan head.

S - Very nice with a chocolate milk and coffee aroma that is plenty strong. Makes you want to dive in and have a sip.

T - Fermented chocolate milk with a half-shot of expresso thrown in. Definitely dark roast characteristics. There's medium astringent bitterness, which lingers along with residual sweetness and a mild sour note.

M - Medium body and low carbonation with a moderate, creamy texture that didn't set of any fireworks for me; perhaps because of the cask conditioning.

D - I enjoyed it. It's obviously well-made I won't seek it out again; at least in the cask presentation.

On cask at the General Sutter during the cask festival.

A: The milk stout has the dark brown, ruby red darkness of the regular version. It's full brown hue is comforting, supporting a thin tan colored head.

S: The nose is all Duck Rabbit, full of lactic sweetness and roasted malts. The twist is the mild presence of coffee, a java aroma that isn't as strong as one would suspect.

T: The flavor, strong and solid as it is, is much more milk stout than coffee stout. Lactose and roasted malts dominate, adding coffee flavors only late in each sip. The fullness, although it takes a while to come through, needs some time. More milk stout than coffee stout.

M: The mouthfeel offers tantalizing glimpses of coffee alongisde the ample lactose milk presence. A decent addition, depth-wise.

D: Plenty of lactose flavor, not as much coffee. It warms like regular milk stout with just enough oomph to register the coffee.

Got this poured from the cask into my growler today at the Piney Grove Green's. Paul, the head honcho from Duck-Rabbit, was there with 5 of his beers.

A - Real dark brown/almost black body with a couple bubbles but not much in the way of a head.

S - Nice sweet coffee aroma with hints of vanilla. Seriously reminds me of an iced coffee. Phenomenal. Second only to the aroma of Victory at Sea.

T - Following the aroma this thing is packed full of sweet coffee notes. Nice light roasted flavor. While other stouts bring nice bitter coffee flavors this is a lot sweeter.

M - medium bodied with hardly any carbonation

D - Honestly the only thing holding this beer back is that it was poured from he cask into a growler and then into my glass. If this beer was bottled or kegged it would be way better. That said the flavor and the aroma on this is amazing and really reminds me of a nice iced coffee. I have to try some more coffee flavored milk stouts.

Cask Event at Duckworths. Nice looking big black pour with a frothy off white head. Sticky webbing left on the glass.

Aroma has the base milk stout aroma, strong sweeter malt, chocolate milk, malted milk balls. This also has some cold mocha coffee drink like quality to it.

Taste is a bit sweet, but it is a great blend of flavors from the aroma. Throw some caramel and especially vanilla in there.

Solid sticky body, not quite creamy, but a typical cask conditioned body. This went down like a mix of chocolate milk and one of those cafe mocha drinks from Starbucks. Only knock is the slight sweetness, which might make one not drink a ton of this.

This was actually my favorite of the day of the dark ones, just ahead of the Highland offering.

Another great addition to the lineup at the cask fest at Duckworth's yesterday. Everything really came off great during the afternoon, This was served in the standard 11.5oz glass and filled to the rim. Consumed on 03/27/2010.

Deep dark pour here, black as night with a big head of foam on top reaching a height of around two fingers before settling back down to earth. Nice lacing coating the sides and making it super sticky. Aroma is coffee and sweet sugary notes. Hints of chocolate coming through now. It was an odd coffee aroma, almost a dark, french press kind of smell, which played off the sweetness in the milk stout extremely well. Really impressed here as even as it warmed it seemed to never dull. Rich, creamy feel, almost as thick as a milk shake. Creamy chocolate and rich velvety coffee notes slide together perfectly and leave the palate soaked in sweetness that is simply wonderful, and that is an understatement. Each sip becoming richer then the one before. Long lasting flavor of coffee balanced on the tongue and left a slightly dry finish soaked in vanilla notes.

Overall this was as solid as they come and the treatment really held together very nicely. Would love to see this one come around more often.
