Served from firkin at the brewpub into a shaker. Poured a hazy reddish-brown with a one finger off-white head. Maintained decent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, clove, spices, and subtle wood. The flavor was of sweet malt, clove, spices, star anise, slight hint of wood, and just a hint of chocolate after swallowing. It had a light feel on the palate with mild carbonation. Overall this was a nice touch on the beer. I got the try the regular version directly prior and the difference between these two is pretty obvious. The oak was not very prominent except on the followthrough. The star anise was very pronouned and quite glad. Glad Natty Greene's put this one together for Firkin Friday and that I was in town to try it.
