Served on-tap at the brewery.
Pours a dark brown with a finger of off white head, no lacing. Aroma is seriously muted, lots of baking flour a little roasty but meh. Flavor is toasted caramel malt, and an onslaught of sweet cherry, I font know where it comes from, but its sickening sweet.
This beer is like if firehouse red had a retarded porter for a brother.

Jet black with a tan film for a head.

Smells of toasted oats and brown sugar.

Flavor is toasted oat malts, nutty bitterness, mildly acidic coffee and some cocoa.

Medium body with a soft carbonation.

Pretty good flavorful porter, would have again. Good flavor balance.

North Country Brewing
Friars Porter
Cask @ Pipers Pub

Served at room temperature on a warm summer day.

LOOK: Dark brown with a very creamy foam top that lasts the duration of the drinking experience. Sheets of lace decorate the glass, that look of a great beer is here.

SMELL: Roasted malt, muted fruit, woodsy hop notes, coffee, chocolates and dark bread compose a very nice and inviting aroma.

TASTE: Follows the nose with a nice roasted malt quality, with notes of dark chocolates, oats, coffee, and mild dark fruits. Mild but assertive bitterness, astringent qualities, but more of a ghost hop than a major player in the flavor. This is about smokey roasted malts, cocoa, and nutty qualities. Reasonably complex and mostly just delicious.

FEEL: Medium bodied but lighter, small carbonation and ultra smooth. Silky smooth, delicate, easy to quaff feel.

OVERALL: A quality beverage from North Country, and proves to be a great cask conditioned ale. Perfect after dinner beer, meant to be savored with substantial sips.

A - just a bit of red around the edges, tight tan hear.

S - very, very mild malts and chocolate.

T - Smooth malts and chocolate up front, mild bitter turn in the after taste.

M - light covering, but a lot of tingle through the after taste. You feel it on the tongue, back of mouth and down throat.

D - two or so.

Got growler of this on the weekend. Labeled Friar's Coffee Porter.

A: Pours deep murky blackish-brown. Little to no head, but it was in a growler for two days.
S: Roasted, sweet, malty.
T: Rich roasted coffee, chocolate, light bitterness.
M: Smooth, not much carbonation, again it was in a growler.
D: Pretty well rounded and drinkable porter. I would have liked to see some nice head on this, maybe I'll have to order a pint the next time I have a chance to eat at the restaurant.

Had at the brewpub in Slippery Rock.

A- Pours a deep brown, with a nice tan head.

S- Slight coffee scent with hints of sweet chocolate.

T- Good coffee-chocolate flavor, well balanced, not too sweet.

M- Smooth, medium body, plenty of carbonation, but not fizzy.

D- Definitely one of North Country's more drinkable beers.

Growler -> goblet
ABV: 6.1%

Pours black with a glorious thick 2 inch mocha head that lasts. Patchy lace clings to the glass

Nose: Dark malts, chocolate, and coffee fill the nose. A very rich full scent.

Taste: The rich dark malts are upfront and in your face. Touches of dark chocolate and burnt coffee grinds. A nice lingering hop bite in the finish leaves you wanting another sip. Delicious.

Mouthfeel is a bit crisp for a porter, not very chewy, but it works for this brew.

A very sessionable porter from North Country. I could drink this all night long.

This porter is very dark with a small head that leaves some nice lacing. Aroma is faint dark malt. This stuff is quite hoppy for a porter but there is also a strong roasted and chocolate malt presence. Nicely balanced- the additional hops really work in this brew. The mouthfeel is also just about right. Not too heavy and easy to drink. Definitely a good choice at North Country.

Part of a 5oz sample platter.

I am beginning to realize that I might be a closet porter fan, and don't even realize it. This was a shade behind the Bucksnort Stout for my 2nd favorite sampling today.

What a beauty to look at! For a porter, its very dark, ruddy-ebony, almost opaque. Of course it had a wonderful cream colored head with strong, clinging lace. Nose was the only weakpoint - it was murky, peaty, hard to pinpoint.

A stronger than most use of hops for a porter, but it swallowed surprisingly mild and light. The main undercurrent to the hops was a dark chocolate with caramel accents. This beer was enjoyable, drinkable, and I would try it again. You won't regret trying this offering.
