This traditional German style "Black Lager" has a nice medium body with a rich, but still mild malt character that is not overly toasty and a gentle hop balance to give you a highly drinkable dark lager.

Black Lab Lager – from North Country. 6-pack of 12 fl oz cans purchased from Franklin Beer, Franklin, PA, 30/05/24, $ 12.50 (Including tax), $ 0.174/fl oz. Reviewed 01/06/24 (Review 3283). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Bottom of can stamped “CANNED 11/16/23”. On room temperature shelf at distributor. Stored at 34 degrees at home. Served at 39.3 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 47.8 degrees F.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Medium Amber (SRM 12), clear.
Body – Brown (SRM 20), opaque. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, opaque, with red amber at the bottom edge and citron at the top edge.
Head – Average (Maximum 3.7 cm, aggressive center pour), almond, high density, average retention, leaving a 0.3 cm ring and a partial cap.
Lacing – Good. Wide sheet of near-microscopic bubbles.
Aroma – 4 – Roasted malt. No yeast, no hops, no alcohol (4.8 % ABV as marked on the can).
Flavor – 4 – Slightly bitter with roasted malt. No yeast, no hops, no alcohol. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Faint gastric warming.
Palate – 4 – Medium; watery; lively carbonation.
Final Impression and summation: 4 A surprisingly good beer.
