Lighter body than expected; a twinge of almost lacto-sour; big oak-tannin bitters on the finish; limited, dry brown sugars; weak nose; nice auburn color, with huge head dwindling quickly but retaining slightly and persistently.
Not my favorite amber, or my favorite set of flavors; but very interesting flavors, and a very worthwhile variation on the theme.

Taste/Mouthfeel: More roasted sweetness and pine. Feels very creamy. Excellent!
Drinkability: A bit too heavy to be an excellent session.
Overall: A great amber.

On tap at the brewpub.
LOOK: Orange amber
SMELL: Sweet toasted malt, dried grass, vague ripe fruit.
TASTE: Mildly sweet, malty, modest hopping, toasted biscuit, pulling dryness.
A very solid amber, extremely drinkable. Perfect balance here, great job guys.

Review from notes taken on 8/31/10. Thanks to Ryan my old friend who now lives in Durango for bringing this home to share.
Poured from a growler into a snifter, this brew appears a pretty clear amber color with some orange hues about it. The head appears frothy and tan. Lacing sticks in patches about the glass and retains well.
The nose includes a bit of a vinegar touch with a slight spice in the back. Very mild woodsy scent thrown in to wrap up the aroma that all together is somewhat malty sweet.
The taste a fresh toasty grain flavor that has some mild fruity esters and a bit of wood flavor that meshes with the toasty grain character. Very fresh grain taste here that is throughout the profile of this brew and into the finish. Mild hop bitterness that works well to balance out the caramelized sugars in this brew. A lasting taste of toasty grain, slightly woody and mildly induced by hoppy bitterness persists.
This is a medium bodied brew with a moderately low level of carbonation. Quite easy drinking and enjoyable with a toffee-like sweetness that lasts despite the hop bitterness. Not quite what I was expecting but overally not that bad.

This came to me with a medium-tan head exploding with CO2 bubbles. The nose had a liquor-like sweetness, possibly from its having been aged on oak chips. The color was a deep brown with ruby highlights and NE-quality clarity. The mouthfeel was medium with a decent malty sweetness on the tongue. The finish had a slight heat to it, perhaps because of the oak chips. I also got a slight coconut aftertaste.

From their web site:
A well balanced American Amber Ale. Smooth malt character balanced with a healthy dose of Cascade hops aged on oak chips - our most popular beer.
My review:
Reddish dark amber in color; excellent slightly off-white head that leaves good lace. The aromas are mostly malt.
More hops than expected in the taste, particularly based on the smell. Not as balanced as advertised, the oak notes are extremely subtle. The hop is so quick, there are no real buttery notes. The finish, though, is well-balanced. Moderate body and carbonation.
This is a very pleasant and drinkable beer.
