Poured into a Stone Imperial glass. A deep mahogany color, with light caramel highlights. Some very tiny carbonation bubbles show through and lead to a two fingered tan colored head. Lace is sticky at the moment.
Smell is biscuity and sweet from the roasted malts. I can really pick up alcohol or maybe some metallic smells.
Taste is as I should expect for the style, very sweet and I am picking up the tastes of Christmas. Some spicyness of clove and some citrus flavors. Some carmel and molasses. Very enjoyable!!
The mouth is rich and smooth, with the warmth of alcohol. Definitely a true sipper. This will put you to sleep if you let it.
Overall this was fantastic. Thanks to Erik Maxson for this "low fill" sample. It was quite special to enjoy a hand autographed bottle from the Head Brewer himself.
