In the glass, Lost Falls Pale Ale appears similar to their rye. Both are unfiltered, served young, and assume a rusty pumpkin color though the pale ale is perhaps a touch more yellow. It also tends to trail a bit of lace where the rye shows none. This is an American pale ale in the sense of making a brawny nod towards a very forward hop flavor and aroma. The hop accent is strong; a bit too strong for my tastes as the abundance of lupulus adds greenness to the taste, astringency to the texture, and forces the malts to take a back seat. Though I felt the hops were overplayed, Im sure many people will appreciate this ale precisely for that reason.
