Pour: .5L bottle to tulip glass, this is one good looking beer. Comes out pitch black with a gorgeous two finger light brown plump head that makes a slow, pock-marked descent, clinging to the glass as it falls.
Nose: Bourbon, dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, cherries, liquor flavors with the cherries. Inviting, but a bit too much of the barrel and not enough of the beer.
Mouth: Roasted and smoked. Mouthfeel is a surprising let down, just too fizzy. Tart bittersweet flavor with lemons mixes with dark cocoa... not the best mix in the world. Finishes w/ a roasted bitterness that I enjoy, but overall not the best brew.

500 ml swing-top capped.
Pours an almost pitch color with a tan head that quickly receeds. First whiff is sweet with hints of vanilla + faint coffee and bourbon. Tastes like a sweet porter with a slightly tangy aftertaste. Rich, bourbon notes, some oak, vanilla. There's some alcohol warming in the finish (which also ends slightly sharp). Medium bodied, slightly carbonated, but has a deceptive mouthfeel- initially feeling slightly thinner, it leaves a full-bodied finish on the tongue. Milky and slightly sweet.
All in all, a very good beer, and I am eager to see what some cellaring does to this one.
