The Elk Head menu tags this as being closest to a regular beer as theyve got. Most of what I would think of as regular beers are lagers. Elk Head Gold is an ale, and yet its taste is vaguely suggestive of a steam beer. Its color however is bright, brassy yellow and it doesnt aspire to filtered clarity.
Elk Head Gold tastes casually sweet with a light honey essence that finishes bland. Though served with a soft white head, the beer itself is virtually uncarbonated. Perhaps the best I can say for it is that the Gold suffers less from sanitation issues than the majority of Elk Heads offerings. It is largely inoffensive but fails to rise to the occasion of agreeable drinkability.
