On nitro-tap at Silverado on 7/16/09.
A - Charred dark brown body with deep amber hues a the bottom and huge frothy, pouffy beige cap that poked over the rim of the glass, eventually leaving intricate lacing around the glass.
S - Prevalent bourbon and oak/wood presence, although it is missing the obligatory vanilla sweetness. Hint of boozy alcohol with some dark caramel and toffee notes to sweeten things up a bit. Subtle aroma overall.
T - A little uneven overall. While there's some roasty notes and lots of bourbon, the flavor is pretty restrained. Sweet malts contrast with the oak and woody tannins, giving way to a warm bourbon alcohol presence in the backend. No vanilla to cool down the heat, though.
M - Medium body with a slight oily texture, but pretty thin and watery overall, even for a nitro pour. Finishes with slight alcohol warmth and a touch of astringency on the palate.
D - Decent bourbon barrel-aged stout, though I felt it could have used more of a malt presence and some vanilla sweetness to counter the bourbon and woody characteristics. Mouthfeel was a bit thin too.
