RJ Rums & Spirits LTD "Kingzton"
11.2 fl. oz brown glass bottle without production dates or freshness codes
$3.39 @ State Line Liquors, Elkton, MD
Notes via stream of consciousness: It's poured a clear golden body beneath a short head of white foam that didn't hold up for too long. There's not a lot to the aroma but it's clean with some grainy malt, what might be some corn, and a touch of floral character. The taste follows and I think I might be right about the corn, but regardless, there's definitely some adjunct in use. That's OK, it's a little thin on flavor but in the heat of the Jamaican sun you wouldn't want much more. It could use some more hops though, but again, it's OK given that it's an adjunct lager. What was the ABV? 4.6%? No, it's 4.8%. It could use more hop bitterness as well, at least in my opinion, but it still finishes mainly dry. In the mouth it's medium-light in body and gently crisp. Once the head dissipated it left no lacing about the glass, which is disappointing. So, while it's somewhat lacking, and perhaps a little bit unbalanced, it is at least fairly well-brewed. There's a lot of competition out there for beers like these so I wish them luck.

330ml bottle, pouring blonde, near-clear, and headless. Choux pastry aroma, with maize and florescence present in lesser amount. The mouthfeel is a bit weird at first, almost gluey, but the carbonation kicks in to resolve this. The flavours are robust, golden raisin malt with light apple juice, the acidity of which complements a light floral finish. The pastry aroma transmutes in the mouth to a kind of pancake batter, and the finish after the last gulp has a little saffron. Full-bodied at the strength. It’s simple, a bit bland and unexciting, but has enough of its own characteristics distinct from other supermarket lagers to have made it worth me taking a punt on.
