What do a hop, a gooseberry and a grape all have in common? You're about to find out. Sauvinova is a single hop pale ale exploding with tropical gooseberry notes from the Nelson Sauvin hop. It has the same gooseberry-ness that made its grape-cousin famous. So say goodbye to Sauvignon Blanc. Say gidday to Sauvinova.

A 500ml bottle with a BB of July 2018. ABV is stated as 4.7%. Given to me recently as a gift. The label describes it as a single-hop pale ale hopped with Nelson Sauvin, resulting in a tropical gooseberry character.
A: Poured into a Duvel tulip. A rich marmalade-orange hue with good clarity and moderate carbonation. Yields a massive head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a patchy surface layer. Nice lacing.
S: Aroma of bright, fruity hops with hints of gooseberry, citrus rind, zest, sharp tropical fruit, white grape, grass/hay, subtle caramel malt and ale yeast. A touch of noble hop character blended with the fruitiness - very nice.
T: Tastes of sharp fruity hops with notes of gooseberry, citrus zest, peel, mild tropical fruit, white grape, grass/hay, caramel malt, ale yeast and faint earthiness. Slightly sweet, followed by a crisp, leafy bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with spritzy carbonation and good body. Lightly astringent; hop oils tickle the palate. Aftertaste of fruity aromatic hops, gooseberries, citrus, white grape, caramel malt and ale yeast.
O: Lovely - a crisp, understated fruit bomb of an APA. Looks good, while the aroma and flavour are replete with sharp fruit underpinned by caramel malt and ale yeast. Nice body. Goes down a treat - well worth sampling if you come across it.

330ml bottle poured into a pint glass.
Semi-transparent in texture with golden brass color, the pour forms up thick fluffy white head that endures with very good retention. It just slowly dissipates to a layer of eternal foamy crown along with lots of lacing patch and spot.
Very tropical aroma reminds me of passion fruit, grapefruit, unique berry-like of Nelson Sauvin hop, white grape, and pine. Malt is also there with more caramel than biscuit.
The taste is nicely mingled by caramel and biscuit malt sweetness together with fruity Nelson Sauvin which is reminiscent of passion fruit, grapefruit, some unique berry, white grape, and pine. Bitterness is moderate and in suitable amount to go well with other flavors.
Medium body with smooth mouthfeel and medium carbonation that carries all the things well, the feeling is crisp and refreshing with dry finish.
Being single hopped with Nelson Sauvin, I discover how good this hop is. It provides unique aroma and flavor unlike other hops and of course it is surely worthy.

Bottle from a Tops supermarket in Chiang Rai, Thailand.
"Single hop pale ale."
Floral, a bit resinous, slightly oily. Pale malts provide the backbone. Crisp and refreshing without being overcarbonated. Balanced, drinkable, and above all enjoyable. Nicely hop-emphatic without coming off overbearing.
A classic pleasing pale ale that will appeal to discerning and casual drinkers alike. I'd buy another if not for its price as an import in Thailand.

Golden-copper, mostly filtered with a hint of fuzzy, lots of super fine bubbles cascading northward. Topped with 4 fingers of fluffy beige tinged white head, leaving an amazing fluffy lacing.
Huge aromas of the famed west coast hops, tropical fruits, tar and caramel. My new word, 'taramel.' Garlic, onions, fresh herbs, fresh chives in particular.
Nicely mimicking the nose, you get tropical punch, taramel, onions, garlic and chives.
Medium body, low in carbonation, a malty, buoyant feel that finishes with a dry tannic note.
Awesome brew, drunk fresh in Chiang Mai, Thailand May 9th, 2016.

On draft at Alfie Byrne’s, Dublin.
Hazy dark amber with crusty off white, a but murky. 3.75
Toffee and lots of musty white grape. 3.75
Caramel, then loads of orange rind, gooseberry, and winter spice. 3.75
Toffee finish and tinny linger.
Medium, round, salty, sticky. 3.5
Single Nelson.
Bit dark and sweet. Doesn’t get the finer points of Nelson. I’d expect more from both Tuatara and NZ. 3.75

Enjoyed on draft at the Oregon Brewer's Festival. Pours a deep orange/yellow hue with a billowy head and sticky lacing. The nose is thick with citrus, quite floral, with passionfruit and pine present in both the nose and the taste. This medium bodied brew is a citrus bomb, and you have to love it for that. Cheers!
