beer nerds tend to forget about the humble nugget hop. this is a single hop ipa featuring it, and its excellent. i am guilty of not knowing this one as well as i should, for how long its been around and all, it seems to not be showcased in this way very often, i dig it. a little amber hue to this one, a sign of a slightly higher crystal malt ratio, but the grain base makes perfect sense for this beer. the hops have a wonderfully sweet piney nature to them, i smell almost frosted hop cones, candied or something, i sometimes get that from el dorado too, that vegetal sweetness, insanely fresh and pungent. they are like that in the flavor too, but also packing some bitterness to finish. i think the sturdier malt base is perfect for balance, and there is the lightest toasted note here that really works. grapefruit zest and pine to finish as well, all super fresh, simple, clean, and well done. this one isnt going to shake up the world or probably even turn as many heads as it should, but its a great ipa from these guys, one of the best wynkoop beers i have had in ages.
