Tried this at Wynkoop on 4 Feb 2009.
Very dark brown color, almost opaque. Small brown head. Light carbonation. Aroma of roast coffee, cocoa. Starts with coffee and chocolate, fairly roasty. Moderate sweetness in the middle. Slight astringency in finish. Medium body. Moderate alcohol.
Like the other Wynkoop beers I tried, nothing really wrong with it but nothing really great either.

Enjoyed at the Brewery during GABF '08 weekend. Opens with an expected, nearly-opaque, dark-brown color with a faint head formation that laced well and lasted the session. Aromas are lightly caramel with a quick follow of roasted grains and cocoa. Flavors of roasted grains and light coffee come into play first before the sweet caramel maltiness balances out. Cocoa notes follow along with some soft berry-like esters. The body is lighter than the taste would have you to beleive, getting closer to a Dry Stout especially since the body gives a dry, powedery texture with the roasted grains and moderate hopping rates. Finishes with the same roast / cocoa notes that started the session. Quite nice.

Pours a very deep black with great tan head and lacing. Very deep scent, full of burnt grains and coffee aromas. Same for the taste, very deep and satisfying, great (almost overpowering) coffee tones, with some good burnt grain undetones. There's a little roughness to it, but it's still a great beer.

Pours a molasses black. No light comes through this one. Minimal head that quickly disappears.
Smells of light coffee, some chocolate, toffee, and hints of dark dried fruits.
Taste is somewhat sweet and chocolaty, with some coffee notes. Simple but excellent. The hops are perfectly balanced with the roasted malty sweetness.
Mouthfeel is excellent too. The oatmeal, I imagine. Really smooth. Body, but not too heavy or overpowering.
Drinkability is superb. You could drink this baby all night long and it wouldn sour or get old. Really a great session.

A dark brown, molasses black pour. clumping, off white head about 1 finger tall.
Smell of coffee and almond. Some chocolate and caramel also come through. A tinge of malt balanced by the dry hops.
Taste of coffee, some weak molasses and caramel. Nutty flavor is sweetened by the malt. Hops dry out the finish for a good grainy residue feeling.
I had this and the Monkey Fist IPA, and I liked this one a bit better.

Ordered this on-tap at the Wynkoop Brewery in downtown Denver. Poured a dark black color with a small, off-white head. A decent amount of carbonation on it - very small bubbles. Aromas had hints of dark roast coffee and bits of chocolate. These carried over into the flavor, too. They balanced nicely with a strong bitter element. Overall, the flavor was very full and rounded, although not overpowering. Mouthfeel was very dense, as expected of a stout. The carbonation complemented the flavors very well. Overall, I think this is an excellent example of a stout.

Drank on tap at Wynkoop Brewery in Denver, CO. Made with eleven varieties of grain including roasted barley and oatmeal. Slightly carbonated and served through a blender faucet. Bittered with Bullion hops and finished with Willamete hops. Opaque, and what appears to be black, but it is dark in the pub and whipping out a flashlight might seem a bit pretentious. Forms a thin dark tan head with poor retention and minimal lacing. Mild carbonation. Aroma is of espresso, burnt grains, bittersweet chocolate, vanilla, and black walnut. Mouthfeel is fizzy, watery, and astringent with a light body. Taste is thin, burnt, vanilla and french roast coffee...there is nothing more. Aftertaste is earthy, dirty, charred, wooden. Similar to a thinner Medocino Blackhawk. Not recommended.
