was hoping for the cowtown, but got this one instead. pours a thick dark brown color with an off white head an inch high. smells like a spiced oatmeal stout, very grainy, with a hint of caraway seeds. flavor actually tastes like dark rye bread. the rye malt flavor absolutely dominates the palate of this beer, which is very unique. im not sure i love the flavor, but it is definitely not like any rye beer ive had before. roasted malt flavors come in towards the end, even a hint of cocoa in there. feel is thick, very full bodied. not sure id drink a bunch of these, but it is smooth in the mouth and sits well in the stomach. if you like rye bread, this beer is for you. if you prefer their milk stout, you may not like this one. tons of credit for doing something different though!

Poured a nice dark brown/black with a thumbs width khaki head. A nice sweet and grainy aroma. A nice rich flavor to this. Started off sweet with some chocolate and coffee, the rye kicks in midstream with some strong spice and graininess. Very creamy, medium bodied. I surprisingly enjoyed this beer more than I expected, not sure I could have more than one in a sitting but I'd happily go out of my way to drink this again.

This is a rye stout, brewed by Wynkoop for DenverOffTheWagon. Poured at Star Bar, not sure how much was made.
Nice looking beer. Lacing is a bit thin and that's the only aspect that keeps this from a '5'. Black pour. Nice thick, soft, foamy head; off brown.
Soft aroma, yet spicy. A soft anise scent--from the caraway I'm guessing--lingers. Roasty malt, soft dark bread.
Flavors are subdued. The coffee/chocolate of a stout are calm in this one. The spice from rye and caraway are also calm. So, too, are raisin, plum and leather. I guess what I'm saying is that the flavors don't 'pop', but are quite nice and balanced.
Ends with a slice poke at the spicines.
Not quite a stout or porter in that I wouldn't recommend for pairing with a dessert. So, categorizing it as a rye
