A shaker pint at the Edmonton Oliver location. Not a lick of info online about this one so far, and the bartender mistakenly led me to believe that Wild Rose made this. Upon further investigation, it turns out not so - Brewsters all the way.
This beer appears a clear medium golden amber hue, with one hefty finger of tightly foamy, somewhat creamy eggshell white head, which leaves some decent rocky shoreline lace around the glass as it slowly seeps away.
It smells of biscuity pale malt, tart citrus rind, earthy, kind of funky yeast, and strong leafy hops. The taste is bitter orange and lemon peel, bready, grainy malt, some astringent barnyard yeast notes, and more leafy, weedy hops.
The bubbles are fairly laid back, but still fulfilling their mandate, the body an adequate medium weight, and generally quite smooth, with just a slight acidic twinge. It finishes off-dry, the breadiness, citrus, yeast, and leafiness all playing nice.
Not too shabby an offering, especially for the style - I felt some strong veritable Belgian connections when working my way through this, or at least big lessons learned from Wild Rose's shot at this earlier in the year. Worth seeking out, and probably the best Unity Brew yet.
