An industry (14oz) pint in #YEGDT.
This beer appears a solid black abyss, with ever so slight basal cola highlights, and one finger of thinly foamy, but at the same time finely creamy milk chocolate brown head, which leaves some nice drooping honeycombed lace around the glass as it lazily drifts away.
It smells of lightly roasted caramel/toffee malt, rich milk chocolate, a twinge of blackstrap molasses, mild cafe au lait, earthy, leafy hops, and a hint of warming alcohol. The taste is more softly toasted caramelized bready malt, melted baker's cocoa, earthy black licorice, moderately syrupy molasses, waning cold coffee, musty earthy hops, and a soft prick of swirling booze.
The carbonation is on the understated and tame side, the body a sturdy medium-heavy weight, and mostly smooth, a slightly aspirational edge (alcohol, likely) marring things a bit. It finishes off-dry, the chocolate, coffee, and malt still well in the game.
An enjoyable Imperial Stout, I gotta say - this went down a little too swiftly, which is always an equally good and bad sign, when the actual ABV is pushing 10 points. Simple, straightforward, and, as already alluded to - damned drinkable.
