A dark malty ale with rich chocolate notes and a hint of smokey flavor in the finish.

Draft at the Chart Room. Brown pour, small beige head. Aroma is roasty, toasty, nutty simple. Taste continues with the same profile, clean and simple, mild roasty notes with robust flavor.

Served at Gunderson's Cannery Cafe, Astoria, OR. Server refered to beer as "Astoria Brewing Company Porter", and referred to style as "Chocolate Porter". Served in nonic pint.
Opaque espresso color, light would not penetrate.
Initial aroma of bittersweet chocolate.
Initial taste of bitterswwet chocolate yields to warming alcohol and notes of pear. Warming alcohol lingers to coffee finish and aftertatse.
Exceptional overall drinkability. Perfect as a desert beer at the end of a meal.

Not much of a head, but what was there stayed for the whole glass and left a bit of lace behind, too.
This porter has a nice sweet, malty, roasty aroma. It's very appetizing.
It also tastes great. Lots of chocolate and toffee notes along with the roasted malt flavor. Just enough hop bitterness to balance the malt. A very satisfying porter.
Great mouthfeel, too. Lots of texture and body.
Its been a while since I had this and I forgot how much I liked it. It's a very drinkable porter. It went very well with my roast beef, and I've had it with seafood and enjoyed it, too. I think I'll get a growler of this next time I get a bunch of oysters.

A simple, agreeable beer with no appreciable deficits or standout qualities. The flavor is modestly sweet and mild though ultimately balanced and sustained. A gentle, malty aroma makes a late showing. Served slightly fatigued and headless though it paired well enough with a plate of fishnchips.
