certainly the most modern beer we had in here, a cold ipa, and very well done, unexpected, all at our table really dug on this one. medium golden and well clear with a brassy luster and a short white head from the tap. the nose here is lightly spicy on the hop side, pretty bold and bitter in the west coast tradition, but also with that cleans snap from the cooler ferment, really like that in these, and this seems robust without leaning on a big dry hop. bitter orange and grapefruit, light pine and woodsy notes too, and an obvious danky freshness, just enough pale malt to balance but nothing exotic there. the flavor follows the nose, freshness is high, and there are some subtle fruity wrinkles that come out, green grape and kiwi fruit, almost ripe strawberry, and fresh cut grass, in addition of course to more apparent intense citrus and finishing bitterness. this drinks balanced but ends abruptly and really hoppy, love the bitter bite on the dry finish. and the rushing carbonation and light body make it refreshing for an ipa. a tidy and drinkable west coast type, cleaner than their astoria ipa we also had, delicious!
