Sampled this one on 5-28-05 at Summer Camp 2005 in Chillicothe. Arrived in my cup a deep dark reddish brown with a nice tan cap on top. As the sun peeked through the cup streaks of red shot out. As the head subsided some nice lacing left its mark. Aromas of dark roasted maltiness with and some sweet molasses notes. Somewhat subdued in the nose but still enjoyable.
First sip brings a wall of dark maltiness that has a nice light roasted flavor. Midway through the sip I get hints of licorice and sweet molasses. Nice and fairly chewy..this beer goes down quite easily with no hint of alcohol in the flavor. Quite sweet with lots of rich maltiness...not a bad Doppelbock from a small town in IL.
Mouthfeel was medium bodied and had a nice malty consistency that slid across the palate well. I could have had a few of these...but this was my last for the night as Moe was playing.. I'll be interested to try more Elmwood brews in the future.
