Inspired by the ceremonial chocolate beverage of the Yucatan peninsula, this Imperial Stout combines the flavors of unroasted cocoa, dried ancho and guajillo chili, Ceylon cinnamon, and vanilla bean. The resulting beer is a rich and complex mix of fiery chili, spice, and bitter dark chocolate.

Compared against Mexican Birthday Cake, I would prefer this beer. I thought this captured exactly what I look for in a stout, great flavor, mouth feel, and finish. Excellent brew, even thought the name confused me for a while.

This Mexican Stout is almost perfect. The chocolate indulgence you get is delicious. At first, I was wondering where the chilli pepper flavor was but as I sipped it I could literally feel the tingle on the back of my tongue grow and grow very slow and subtle like. The fact that it slowly creeps up on you made me love the beer even more. Great job Saranac! Tipping my hat toward Central NY this very moment.

Pours nearly jet black except for some reddish brown hue when held to the light,a billowing deep beige head atop.Smells like roast, bitter chocolate, and chilies, actually made me sneaze when smelling. The body is a tad under what I was thinking it would be and a little slich,in saying that it has a creaminess to it as well.Chocolate really stands out on the palate, almost fudge-like,than some nuttiness and chili come in a late finish.Saranac stepped up their game for this one along with a few of their newer offerings.Worth seeking out I think.

Quick notes:
Beautiful dark black beer topped by a dark tan head.
Aroma carries strong spice notes, sweet and tangy. Cinnamon seems to be most prominent, with a hint of chili, but it's hard to pin down the spices exactly.
Flavor follows: it's a chocolate stout with a ton of spices. Unfortunately, I feel the spices are overwhelming, and don't quite jive with one another.
Thick feel; very smooth.
Perhaps it's a touch too much cinnamon, but I found the spices unbalanced and unappealing.

Way too thin bodied for the style. Got some pepper in the nose and maple in a vegetal based beer. Not toasty enough to handle the other flavors.

Chocolaty start then a chili pepper kick at the end.
