A chilled bottle of Saranac oatmeal stout with brown sugar was tasted in June, 2019. The beer is a good dark mahogany color. Initially there is about 1/2 inch of substantial tan foam which falls slowly. The initial taste is middle of the road balanced stout, not too heavy. After the swallow, I enjoy a lingering aftertaste of roasted malt and hop bitterness. The flavor effect of the brown sugar isn't obvious. This is a good brew from Saranac. I don't think it's regularly available, though.

L: Dark brown with reddish tint, not quite opaque. 1 inch head, retention is not long; however, lacing lasts
S: Not especially aromatic - coffee, roast, and some sweetness present
T: Mostly coffee and roast. Sweetness present upfront, but cannot distinguish this as brown sugar as I would have expected. Slightly bitter finish
F: Medium, good carbonation
O: Average stout. Would have liked more had it been stronger on the nose and a bit more complex

Look: It is dark brown in color with a tan head. Head is cream and head retention is good.
Aroma: It has a moderate coffee aroma with a bit of roast. There is a very slight nutty note in the background.
Taste: It has a coffee and roast balance in the flavor. The flavor is a bit one dimensional for an oatmeal stout.
Feel: It has a medium body. The carbonation is medium high. The finish is a bit harsh.
Overall, the coffee and roast dominate with a bit of slight harshness in the finish.

This oatmeal stout has a very distinctive look, smell and taste. I have never experienced anything like it. (Of course, I have no experience with oatmeal stouts, so that may explain it.)
This beer makes a very nice, 1-1 1/2 inch tan head with a dark brown color to the beer itself. The color is not opaque, but is very dark.
The smell is very toasty, I mean, just like toast for breakfast, and strong on oatmeal notes, as well as revealing a lot of brown sugar. This may be obvious, based on the name. I do also, however, notice a strong nuttiness, almost like walnuts.
The taste did not appeal to me as much as the other aspects. There is a definite roasted, bitter flavor, resembling coffee.
The feel is medium, as far as I can tell.
Overall, I rate this beer low because of the bitterness and the lack of drinkability. It seems like the brewers were going for a specialty beer, and they got that, but it's not my thing.

Look: black and non see through good sign for a stout
Smell: some caramel and coffee notes maybe a hint of vanilla and coacoa with a after thiught smell of the brown sugar that lingers
Taste: follows the nose with a good coffee presence not overbering though letts that little bit of vanilla and coacoa come through with the brown sugar finish
Feel: a little to watery for my taste put for a 12 dollar 12 pack beer not bad for a stout but its a milk stout so if you like some carbonation its not here but doestn mean its bad
Overall: not the best stout that goes to old rasputin but ill say for a lower abv and more milk stout with less carbonation (i prefer some carbonation) this is quite good for the money more of a less filling stout its quite good and i would buy more
