Poured into a mug.
Appearance: Pours a very dark brown-amber with 1/4-inch creamy tan head. Looks a lot like a light porter or brown ale. Head looks pretty sticky and retains well. This is definitely the darkest amber I've ever seen.
Smell: Caramel, cocoa, pine, some sweet milk chocolate, and bready malts.
Taste: Cocoa, pine, salted butter, caramel, and earth. Bready malts, cocoa, and a touch of citric hops make up the aftertaste. Just as with the bottled version of General Sherman IPA, this bottled version of Tamarack tastes (and looks) much different than the on-tap version at the brewpubs. Though weird and untrue to the style, this beer is still quite attractive to the palate. I'd give it a higher score if it were listed as a brown ale.
Mouthfeel: Light bodied and a bit chewy, though it does feel watery at times. Carbonation is just right in this one, providing a very smooth ride. Overall, quite enjoyable.
Drinkability: For as odd and untrue to the style as this one is, I liked it. I'm currently on my second one and I'm still diggin it. Definitely tastes more like a brown ale than an amber ale. Light bodied and smooth, and better than General Sherman IPA in my opinion.

Poured into a standard pint glass more of a full bronze color than amber a thinner quick to fade white head atop.Chocolate malt really stands out with some standard roastiness and butter in the nose,lightly hopped old school amber here full chocolate flavors along with some buttery toffee all along a roasty character shows through to the finish.A hint of green hop in the finish but this is an old school malty American amber if you like that style of amber this is for you.
