Initially sampled (and added) this beer several months ago, but this is my first time reviewing it. Sampled at the Champlain & Perrin location.
Served in a standard American pint glass.
Appearance: Crystal clear mahogany body with a creamy, khaki-colored cap. Head shows decent retention, and drags fantastic lace: thick, sticky notches with webby gaps. When held to light, the body showcases orange and red highlights. Very pretty.
Smell: Caramelized walnuts, brown malt, pine sap, and toasted bread. Good amount of residual sweetness with a light alcoholic pinch (hops don't show through much).
Taste: Pine resin, brown malt, heavy hop bitterness, and a light alcoholic burn. Lots of pine all the way through. Pretty intense for a brown.
Mouthfeel: Fine, rolling carbonation creates a velvety sensation on the palate. Finishes dry, peppery, and slightly warm. Sort of resinous/oily. Bigger than most American brown ales.
Drinkability: One of Sequoia's best beers in my opinion. This brown borders on imperial but goes down very quickly!
