Poured from a bottle bought at chalkboard, downtown jozi. Pours a pretty distinctive red brown caramel cloudy color with some creamy foam on top.
No distinctive smell but a great nutty and alcoholic taste. The alcohol lingers and takes away some flavor points for me.
Extremely smooth on the tongue. Rich. Full.
Not a bad beer but definitely not a session one. This bottle will be enough for me.

I've spent quite sometime in South Africa and this beer is really only available in about 2 places across the whole country. It was truly a treat to find a pub that had more than the usual Hansa, Castle, Peroni cast of characters.
A: A rich amber color with a fairly clingy white head
S: Sour notes, but not remarkable. Does not reflect actual taste well.
T: Starts like your typical Scottish Ale, finishes with a bitter bite that lingers just long enough.
M: Starts with a heavy body, but finishes light.
D: 2 or maybe 3 would be the most I could take.
This is easily one of the best beers available in SA. There is a desperate need for ales like this.

on tap at the watefront brewery in cape town
abv listed at 5% on the menu
appearance: served in an imperial pint glass, very dark mahogany with a light beige head and no retention
smell: not much, earthy malts, dry cocoa, slightly metallic
taste: decent enough to drink and a nice departure from the mostly macro beer scene in the country, earthy and musty malts, light metallic hops, dry cocoa
mouthfeel: a bit watery
drinkability: maybe it was the illness but i couldnt finish this
