Black Sappath is a Milk Stout brewed with chocolate and fresh blackberries, then aged in maple syrup barrels for 6 months. Sweet as an angel, but black as sin, this beast is a wonderfully complex blend of fruit and caramel flavors. Aromas of chocolate, sweet toffee and caramel up front with a tart blackberry finish. Pair with pancakes and waffles and...

I haven't thought about it much previously, but blackberries seem to go well in a stout. It is different but nice, and not heavy.
Look: black with a thick off-white head
Aroma: moderate roasted malts, chocolate, blackberries
Flavor: The flavor is roasted malts, caramel, milk chocolate, maybe vanilla, and slightly tart blackberries, not as sweet as I expected.
Body/Overall: medium to full body, lighter than a typical stout

12 fl oz can from Martin Wine Cellar, New Orleans, LA for $4.99 USD. My last beer for a while...
"Chocolate milk stout aged in maple syrup barrels with blackberries." 6.8% ABV.
Shallow and simple with a gooey texture. None of the advertised flavours are particularly prominent...it's a hodgepodge mess of a brew that barely fulfills the promise of its premise. Maple syrup? Forget about it...
More overpriced mediocrity from Rahr & Sons.

L: super dark, I received it at Hay Merchant with probably a little more than 1/4” of CO2 head. No lacing.
S: almost none. Had to breathe really deep on the 3rd try to get anything.
T: a good Baltic Porter. Not sure what they were trying for, but it’s got that. Dark blueberry syrup, not much sweetness, but not absent.
F: alternates between surprisingly thin on the palate then properly thick after. Keeps one from overdoing it.
O: I wrote this to give more detail and decrement the 1 high score a bit. It’s not worthy of achieving a 3.9 relative to other beers. It’s a good to great Baltic Porter. At least that’s what it tastes like.
