Another great brew from my favorite Texas brewery. Their Octoberfest has been fantastic. Stroke of brewer intelligence to age it in barrels. Keep this one coming Rahr.

Purchased at lone star beverages in Carrollton , texas. Have never had a barrel aged marzen

Packaged in an attractive and appealing litho color print box that holds two 12 oz cans

“We took our award winning Oktoberfest marzen lager and aged it in American oak bourbon barrels for 12 weeks. The result is an impressive blend of oak, caramel , toffee, vanilla and spice.”

Can poured into a stein results in a one finger taupe foam layer, good retention that settles to a thick layer over a clear copper liquid

Aroma is toffee, malts, vanilla, whiff of spice

Taste is malt with caramel bourbon notes, mildly sweet

Medium sudsing , caramel taste rests firmly on the tongue . Abv is well hidden and could be deceptively destructive if the drinker thought it was only a flavored marzen . Packs a 9.6 abv

Good beer , recommended , interesting take on the style .

This is a truly unique beer, a bourbon barrel aged Märzen from Rahr & Sons Brewing Company, Fort Worth, Texas, ABV 9.60%. Basically they took their Award Winning Octoberfest, aged it Oak Bourbon Barrels for 12 weeks and called it "Oaktoberfest". It comes out great, and it is easy and dangerous drinking.

Look: semi-clear amber an inch thick white head

Aroma: toasted bread, bourbon

Taste: The flavor is toasted bread, caramel, similar to a regular Märzen but heavier and then there's notes oak, vanilla and bourbon.

Body/Overall: It has a light to medium body

Poured an amber color with a nice cap in my special wooden tankard from a 12 ounce can labelled "Hasselhoff in a can" 21320. Comes a pair of aluminum cans in a special box. Smells of whiskey and wood. Tastes like a real boilermaker with whiskey in the mug feel without the whiskey burn. I get more whiskey than the sweetness I heard about. Mouthfeel of a Marzen but the woody whiskey is what you taste. Overall I get the specialty of the product and enjoyed it enough I will look for this again and let them age a year. I enjoyed the experience Rahr. Go Frogs!

The brewery is calling it a Marzen. It could be a Dopplebock, but I defer to the brewers. Lower than average head retention & lacing

Pours a beautiful & effervescent copper color with 2+ fingers of sandy colored head.

S: Toastyness & a little barrel

T: Rich toastyness, a little brown bread, a little caramel & just a little leafy hop & barrel up front. Oaky barrel comes through a long with toastyness, a little booze/figgyness to go with the dryness & leafy hop as this warms. Finishes toasty &dry with figgyness & leafy hops

MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation

This one, I would happily buy again, not perfect, but delivers on flavor

Booze heft is well hidden
