Found this in the back of the beer fridge, so its had some time to sit. Pours an extremely dark red-brown, only slightly translucent around the edges, with minimal foam. Unique scent is malt and sugar, but crisp not cloying, with a dose of spice, most noticeably nutmeg. Flavor is packed. Malt and treacle lead the way, followed by rum, nutmeg, cinnamon and maybe some cloves. even licorice. Flavor lasts and lasts, especially as it warms. Feel starts out a smooth, strong ale, with moderate carbonation persisting, but it ends as spiced rum. Overall, this is a very uniquely tasty beer, with a sugar, spice and rum bill you'd ordinarily find with an imperial stout, not something this smooth. The spice and rum make this is a sipper, not a fast drinker, but sipping also lets you enjoy the evolution of the flavor balance as it warms. Not a beer I'd drink every night, but a good fit for the holiday season.
