Pours a deep garnet color with a thin lace. It has a very sweet candy-like character. Caramel, syrupy, and a bit fruity. The high alcohol is very well hidden in the sweetness of the malt. A fairly thick and smooth mouthfeel makes this one very enjoyable.

This beer was poored with a nice, creamy head that slowly went down into a nice lace. The tastes in this beer were complex. I tasted many different things, which made it both good and interesting. The only downside to this beer was that it's high alcohol content reduces its drinkability. At 8% you got a lot there. Quite enjoyable, and definitely worth a try.

Its just slightly hazy mahogany body has a ruby cast while sitting upon the bar but displays amber-orange highlights when held to the light; and reveals hundreds of tiny, steadily rising bubbles beneath a massive head of rocky light-tan foam. The retention is quite good, and it very slowly drops to a creamy lid, and then to a wide collar and whispy surface covering. It's lacing is a bit limited for the style, initially leaving some nice, 'craggy' rings, but later only mediochre splotches, splashes, and spots. The aroma is delicate but fresh, clean and somewhat complex with notes of delicate toffee, sugar candy, earth and wood, spice, and dried straw. In the mouth, it's fine carbonation leaves a gentle caress on the tongue against its medium/light body but it's not quite crisp. Very nice! The flavor starts with spice; earthy and straw-like malt; and a fruitiness that's somewhat vinous (berries, cherry, and dark grapes). As it warms in the mouth it becomes a bit candyish and lightly caramelish, reveals a toasty side, and then becomes a bit woody and biscuity. It finishes with a quick flash of dark fruit and a flourish of drying spiciness. The bitterness is very well-balanced, toggling between simply drying things out and just barely showing itself; and the alcohol is well-hidden although it does reveal itself a bit towards the end of the glass. Quite nice!
