Notes: Listed at 5.6% ABV. It's a cloudy deep amber with golden highlights beneath a full head of off-white foam that holds well and leaves some nice lacing behind. It smells like wheaty wort, which is a little odd. There's some mild phenolics with banana, but there's also a little bit of something vegetal. The flavor delivers notes of golden caramel, medium-dark caramel, apple, pear, banana, a hint of dark fruit, grassiness, spiciness, earth, and again, a touch of something vegetal. It's not bad but it's not great. A median to firm bitterness balances it and brings it to a mostly dry conclusion. In the mouth it's medium bodied and crisp.

 

 

 

 

Served on-draught into a .5l hefeweissbier glass at Ambrausianum. Reviewed from notes. It was priced affordably.

A: Pours a two finger head of lovely cream and thickness, with good retention. Colour is a hazy orange-gold. Appealing.

Sm: A light aroma of plain wheat. Meh.

T: Cream, a familiar taste I can't quite place, a nice wheat foundation, citrusy ester hop notes (but more restrained than usually seen in hefeweizens), with a satisfying climax and pleasant finish. All around very refreshing. Complex enough and built well for the style. Nicely balanced.

Mf: Smooth yet adequately coarse on the climax to bring out the flavours. Nicely wet and refreshing. Suits the flavours of the body.

Dr: Refreshing, flavourful, and relatively inexpensive. Certainly worth a try, especially for fans of the style.

C+

The colour is brown-orange, the liquid cloudy. The finger high head is off-white.

Some hops in the smell. Overripe bananas and light roasted hints: Nuts and butterscotch.

The taste is surprisingly roasted. Almost artificial bitter notes. Flavours of warm bananas. It develops into dry flavours of nuts, vegetables and butter. The aftertaste brings some tart fruity notes and hints of alcohol. Detergent-like fat chemical notes in the finish.

The carbonation is light, small sharp bubbles.

According to the waitress, most old time hefeweizens were darker than today. It might be so, but I wasn’t impressed with this one.

I think this was my favorite beer at this location. It had mild malt aroma with some tones of banana. The body was cloudy and a deep yellow color. The off white head and lace was very creamy. This might have been the sweetest flavored weizen I had ever tasted. There were not that many spicy esters at all. It was very banana like and a bit of bubble gum to it. As with all of their beer though I did find it to be thin.

Had the Beer Sampler with one each Helles, Hefe-weizen and Dunkel. Weizen was the second beer I sampled. Had Beer Soup, (very salty) and two Pretzels to cleans the palate between beers.

Sample size was.1L from the tap in a straight sided glass. (Looked like a juice glass).

Cloudy copper colored beer with half a finger of head that dissipated last of the three beers that were served.

Distinct floral, spicy and malty odors.

Taste of fruitiness and spices, hint of floral with a light bitter aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel and mild carbonation.

This beer has average drinkability. This is a solid Hefe-weizen in the land of plenty.

This hefeweizen poured a cloudy, murky, yellow-brown color with creamy, off-white foam that slowly settled and clung to the glass in clumps. The smell was dominated by banana with a bit of light wheat malt backing it up. The taste was wheat malt and light bananas with mild citrus and a touch of yeast. There was a light fruitiness and a hint of cinnamon in the finish. The mouthfeel was smooth and almost creamy with medium body and moderate carbonation. The flavors lingered lightly and pleasantly in the aftertaste. This was a very good and refreshing hefeweizen.

Everlasting head, smooth, creamy and dense on a beautiful intense opaque orange copper color. The smell is wheaty and slightly yeasty with fruity notes and light banana aromas, but not exuberant. The taste is greatly balanced. Sweet malts and wheat, with a refreshing banana flavor. Intensely cerealy, yet not heavy. Mouthfeel is excellent, bready with a light sweet note, full and round. Satisfying. Maybe the finish is not as clean as for some other beers of the style, but it is still very tasty. And addictive.

This is a very good medium bodied Hefeweizen. A perfect balance of clove and banana aroma. The flavor is likewise balanced with the spicyness doing it's part to keep a clean and crisp aftertaste. Ambräusianum's Herr Mahr has hit the mark with this Hefe. It distinctively bridges the gap between the lighter orange colored Hefe's like Paulaner and the darker, spicier Dunkels like Schneiderweiss.

I enjoyed this bier with bierman9 and my friend Mark while recently in Bamberg. It was hard to stop at one of these so I didn't. If you find yourself in town, stop by this new charm.

The owner, Herr Mahr, said this was his best offering, so this was the logical Bier to start with. It poured a medium copper color, sort of between a regular Hefe and a Dunkelweizen. It was cloudy, opaque and the color was sort of flat. Head was light tan and short-lived, leaving a bit o' lacing. Nose had a nice banana lean to it. Real nice! A touch of clove, but lovely banana. Oh yeah! Medium in body, this Hefe also was medium on the palate; a lot smoother than most Hefes. Smooth, clean flavor from start to finish; crisp and dry. Lots of banana flavor here, too. More than just a touch of clove appears in the flavor. A real nice Bier, very flavorful, a real keeper!! Nice work, Herr Mahr!!
