Well excuse me... I came back to work last Tuesday after a 4 week absence and now my head is filled with such useless stuff like patient data... :stuck_out_tongue:

Back to that career path in Germany -- 4 weeks. What a slacker.

This beer is neither Bayrisch nor purchased over the internet, but there are no other good threads for me to brag about it. Brought back by a co-worker of die Frau. Will be enjoying these this weekend, but not tonight. I still have to finish that dopplebock.

You scored the good stuff! Damn lucky. Please report on how it tastes to you, and if it tastes the same in Ddf.

That was merely my layover vacation days from 2012 that I have to take in the first 3 month of the new year so they won't expire. I still have almost 8 weeks of paid vacation for 2013.

All of you Amis should be really jealous of the generous legally mandated system in most modern western Euro nations such as German, which is 20 paid days for those working a 5 day work week. (Plus up to 13 national holidays.) That's right... 4 weeks of mandated paid vacation a year. So Strahly took only the "minimum," and many companies add more days on top. Me? I'm a free-lancer, so if don't work, I don't eat, so I gotta work and rarely take more than 2 weeks vacation a year. But my g/f gets 25 a year, and you should be jealous.

    Like I said, slackers.

I actually had 4 weeks vacation at my previous position (lost to the recession) given to me because of experience in my field. I now work at a smaller, family owned business and they're very conservative with their vacation time.

OTOH, my wife just earned her 4th week of vacation after 12 years in the same job. Just means she has more idle free time when I'm not around... :grimacing:

Will do, although to be honest it's been over a year since I've been to Düsseldorf and even then I only had the one while I sat there and chit-chatted with the Köbes. I'm stunned already though, that they list a 26.02.13 filled on date and a 02.04.13 best before date. WTF, five weeks! And I thought Uerige's eight week window was small.

My drinkin' hand is obviously faster than my (photo) shootin' hand:

A friend of mine spent an evening there last week with a friend or two. Here's documented verification of the damage.[IMG]

To tie this in to our other conversation(s), this is what I love about Düsseldorf. It's the complete antithesis of what an American thinks he might enjoy - a bar that serves one beer (or maybe two if they have a wheat?), traditionally made, in a city filled with bars that have the same two options. And yet it doesn't look like your friends were "bored" were they?

Yup, a 5 weeks best by date for Fushschen and 8 weeks for Uerige Alt beers. It doesn’t even make sense to try and drink these beers imported to the US. That is why I homebrew my Alt beers. That is the only way to get fresh, tasty Alt beers; until I hit the Powerball.

    Prost!

A friend or two? There are 36 notches on that mat! I hope it was 9 friends... not 4. :grimacing:

('course, if they all stuck to the smallest glass, they may have been a little coherent...)

Is the 4.50 the cost per each? Yike. Now I really hope that was split 9 ways! :grinning:

The 4.50 will be the cost of something other than beer, orange juice or wine or something. The waiter knows how much a beer costs so why write it down?

Because there may be more than one size/price of beer? Honestly don't know, but the point I was really making was THIRTY-SIX BEERS! :grimacing:

Nope, one beer (alt) one size (200 ml). I was thinking the €4,50 might have been a food item? 36 beers split three ways is a healthy amount, mind you, but not what it sounds like. That's 12 per person times 200 ml for 2.4 liters per Kumpel, if there were three of them. That's a almost five "normal" German sized beers, which is more than I could do, but still not as impressive as 12. If there were four Kumpels total, that would be 9 beers per, which would be just under four "normal" German beers, which is still a pretty good night, IMO. In any case, Düsseldorf is awesome, that's the lesson here.

In other news, the last 500 ml of this two-days-open 1 liter takeaway bottle of dopplebock is not drinking particularly well.

EDIT: The word "healthy" as used above is not literal.

I think you can tell that the Köbes first "scratch" was the one right below the letter "n" in "Füchschen". You can see as the night goes on the scratches start getting smaller and smaller as the Köbes tries to figure out how much more room he's going to need for these guys. :grinning:

Altbierbecher contain 250 ml (have got a Füchsen one right here in front of me).
And the € 4,50 will indeed be a food item.
If other drinks are consumed that have the same price as the beer, then the waiter will draw a line for that one too.

Wow. I'm happy I amused you with one little Bierdeckel. I asked my friend... 4 drinking companions, the 4,50, well he couldn't remember. All food orders go on a separate piece of paper that the wait staff keeps. I did the heavy research and looked on their website's menu, and the only drink for 4,50 is
    Pfaffmann Nussdorf, pinot gris, dry ........................... 0,20 l ..... ............. 4,50

The he remembered that his g/f wanted something other than beer.

    Also from the menu:
    Füchschen Alt, a top-fermented beer
    brewed on the premises
    ............................................ 0,25 l .................. 1.80
    (alc. 4.8 % vol.)

OK I looked at the menu, too, and sure enough the serving size is listed at 250 ml. Great. Now I have to redo all my maths.
