Traditional lambic should never be sweet. If fruit is added it should actually be more dry and more sour.

I think Timmermans and Lindemans also pasteurise their beers.

Used to get it in Indiana, and it was a step outside the box for me too. I was able to get my hands on some when I visited DC last fall. It is like drinking liquid smoked turkey, and it is delicious.

I must have totally missed that. Was it a one-off?

It was a limited release last autumn. I don't know if they'll try it again this year but I heard from a friend at the brewery that the smoke didn't take as well as they hoped because the malt was too wet. Leastways I think that's what he said. I'd had a few beers at that point. I'd really like to see Live Oak bring out a rauchbier.

I believe that's next for their one off series following the dopplebocks release.

Back on topic, I'm very interested to try the hitachino. Something about a Japanese craft beer that intrigues me. Seems like a perfect fit for the nicer Japanese restraunts around town that serve kirin and sapporo now.

Hitachino Nest makes some really solid beers. I'd wash down sushi with their wit any day.

This is what I always say to too expensive..."Please let us not complain about price, it is a mental game. 18.99 4 pk breaks down 9.50 for a 22oz which is very affordable for a beer that is 11% abv, which we all have no problem paying." I was talking about MOA in this example but price is a perception. We are going to be looking at Hito to hit 3.99-5.99 on the shelf depending on style. Which would be equivalant $8-12 for a 22oz beer that come from Japan and in line with a large majority of american craft beer 22's. That is my 2 cents, Drink Craft Beer!!

Thanks for the 3rd grade math lesson

fine if you are wanting to spend 3-6 bucks on a 12-oz of a great (or one that you havnt tried) RIS, BW, etc...I was referring to the Hitichino White in particular. If I buy a wit, I want alot because I am usually going to drink a sixer in a day or two.

    Abita Satsuma Wit - $8.50
    Hoegaarden - $9
    Weisse-Versa - $8
    Hitachino White - $24

Its absurd to have to pay what HN charges for a wit.

I don't think John was suggesting that HN is a cheap beer or one that represents a everyday drinker for most people. But as was suggested before...if I'm going out for (or cooking in) Asian fusion or Sushi I'm probably already splurging a bit and the extra cost for a couple of these isn't too much to fret over. Granted my beer budget monthly is probably higher than most (no wife or kids).

Having the chance to try more quality craft beer in Texas is a good thing I think and I'm glad that we have the chance to now try more craft from underrepresented countries.

Anyone heard anything new regarding this? I had my hopes on drinking some Hitachino Nest White Ale sometime soon.

John (pushstart) said late March early April, so we're getting very close I'd assume. Hitachino is something I am very much looking forward to as well.
