first off: yes, it's their beer and they can do what they want since people (like me) will buy it anyway

I went to lunch the other day at Cascade and remembered they had the 2010 apricot listed online for one of the blenders reserve taps and i decided to get a glass. i didn't notice until later that it was $9/glass and not only that, they have removed the 2013 (or whatever) apricot from the menu entirely which is normally $6 and put the 2010 in it's place (not just as a blender reserve.) now, is this a bonus for us that they're putting 2010 apricot on (for an extended period of time?) for our enjoyment, or is this another case of getting Vlad'd as they make a mint on their standard brew with a "vintage" tag at an inflated price? sure they make amazing beer and i'll keep going back, but the prices are getting ridiculous and i'm not buying into the "vintage" tag all that much. and shit, Vlad and chocolate bourbonic are only $8 on tap.

now supracot, that might be another story...

I refuse to buy bottles unless a trade partner specifically wants it. I generally avoid the barrel house at this point as well.

I don't mind anyone's prices as long as they're posted fairly, really. I had a problem with a place a couple years ago when I ordered a Double Bastard, which wasn't on the listed menu, drank it, and when I went to pay found out it was a $9 pint. I just think it's shady to serve something out of the realm of normal prices without letting people know what they're buying. In my case, why not serve that beer in a format that would keep it around $5 like a normal beer?

Anyway, was the beer itself posted? If no, I'd have a problem. If yes, chalk it up to being able to have a delicious beer 3 years after it was made.

Just talking about draft prices, by the way. Some of the bottle prices these days have gotten way out of hand considering what's inside them.

I'm starting to feel the same way...
I used to have no problem spending that kind of money.
There are so many new local places that don't have the best thing since sliced bread attitude, I would rather buy from them. For example, fremont keeps coming out with cool stuff for a fraction.

You should go to FFF. They refuse to upsize the pub or barrel systems just to keep prices high.
If you want a beer any day of the week, you are waiting outside snow or shine for an hour to hour n a half. they did just build this bottle express line for to go bombers. Great beer... ill wait in the express line and go home to share with my friends!

...unless they ever decide to bottle bourbonic plague. That'll be a different story

Honestly, I'd be there regularly if I was #BallinOuttaControl, but $40+ each visit to cascade is a little too steep for me. On top of that, Sassys is right across the street and that can be even more dangerous for my wallet

They do bottle bourbonic plague. Look for it next month.

I love Cascade, I really do. However, they are increasing their prices too quickly for me to rationalize getting bottles for myself. I only pick up bottles for trading partners now. 2 years ago I could buy a vintage bottle of Bourbonic Plague for $30, but now I find myself paying the same amount for their regular releases? Sure they can justify the cost because of all their online sales, but I feel like the local scene is going to turn its back on them if they keep this up.

    It's pretty simple for me:

$30 for a bottle of Vlad or $34 for 4 bottles of Golden Canary (375mL) or $28 for 4 bottles of Commons Maybelle.

Years back, Ron was worried that people wouldn't buy the bottles if he put it out at the necessary price (low 20s), and the Portland BAs were more than happy to tell him that yes, yes we'd buy it at that price. Seems that Cascade has now decided to push the envelope to match what other sour producers are doing.

I think it would be different for me if I lived in PDX. For someone who only occasionally gets there, I don't mind the premium price. However, if I was a local, that kind of price would get old quick and I'd probably frequent other establishments.

I have been somewhat shocked by the quick rise of bottle prices. When I first moved to Seattle it was roughly $16 for their regular bottles (Apricot, Kriek, etc) and $22 for special stuff...now we're looking at $20-$22 for regulars and $30 for stuff like Vlad. WTH. They've lost me as a customer as I'd rather buy Upright, Logsdon's, Commons, etc for less money. Tilquin Gueuze 750's aren't even that much lol and I would rather stock up on that.

I've also substantially reduced my patronage of Cascade. I'll pick up a bottle for a trade partner if they want it; although for the most part they don't any more. Trying to drink down my own cellar, so I'm much more likely to just go have something on tap than buy a bottle, but even then I've gotten a bit tired of how much I end up spending there for not very much beer.

Oh yeah, I know they bottle it. I was just referring to the upcoming release, that they've been teasing us with for a few months now. And the fact that I don't like they're pricing on bottles...but will gladly shell it out for a few bottles of Bourbonic.

I buy bottles to trade, I drink their beer on site. Good food, good atmosphere, good beer. Family friendly. Love the people that work there.
