Zwanze Day

Here is some more information about the 'all-malt' Iris that Alewife (and some other bars) will have:

 

I saw this last year and think this says a lot about what is going on in Italy:

I might actually go but who knows. I think it is cool one of the owners of Monk's actually lives in my town. Nice guy who used to be a customer at my old place of work...

 

I'd probably do Sputyen again this year. I'd probably do what I did last year. Showed up, bought a Zwanze drink ticket, sampled all the sours, went across the street to Fete Sau, had fantastic and delicious barbecue, went back for the Zwanze tapping, had my glass and enjoyed it.

It was crowded as fuck though...but it's Sputyen, anyone not expecting that is out of their mind.

 

Monk's will definitely have a LOT more different varieties of Cantillon on the list. The last event I went to, Sour Monday (or whatever), they had RdG, Iris, Vig, St. Lam, Kriek, etc. They also had whale bottles (Blauw) and others.

 

Might be a little better than last year, given the backyard option in September (like years past) vs. December (last year). With Alewife co-hosting, Spuyten might be more manageable. 3PM will be annoying as fuck regardless.

 

The inside is crowded as hell no matter what time it is on Zwanze Day, the outside isnt terrible from my experience. Getting your glass of Zwanze is annoying given the layout of the bar and the number of people but it winds up being worth it in the end.

 

I don't like large crowds in very small places for beer, the CBGBs days were fun, but not a good atmosphere for beer drinking. I'll be at Alewife event, hoping its a good one.

 

so whats the consensus on how crowded monk's in philly will be, not looking to deal with the entire cluster shit show

 

it will be crowded. very crowded. get there at 12 and you'll be fine.
