Yea that's likely due to 2 reasons from last year:
    A) it was bloody cold (20ish degrees)
    B) people were really spread out and it wrapped all the way around to the road entrance where the previous year it wasn't wrapped around nearly as far but people were quite packed tightly.

A lot of folks also reported getting 6 when left over bottle sales were opened up too last year at least. Not sure if that's the norm as the last two years I got my bottles then got outta there, maybe had 1 beer but that's it. I'll be doing the same this year (hosting a Halloween Party the 26th I am, same as last year so I can't hangout)

If they distribute tickets can you leave and then come back at your bottle pickup time? Asking for someone who can't drink for 6 hrs. Definitely not me

Once you get your wristband you can leave and come back later (but make sure it is before 3:30pm).

Really considering coming up, but I have to leave Chicago Saturday morning and comeback in the afternoon. For people that have been to darkness day before: if I'm at Surly by 10 am, is there a reasonable chance I'll get a wristband? Any info is appreciated

Edit: missed the post earlier about last years wristbands

It's really a crap shoot, but if you line up ahead of time for the general sales at 4:30 pm, you should have no problem getting 4 bottles. That would mean you would have to stay until 6 pm at least, however.

Here's an answer to your question (if my alcohol-sotted memory is accurate):

    2012: Arrive at 10AM, get a wristband
2011: Arrive at 10AM, miss getting a wristband by 2+ hours
2010: Arrive at 10AM, miss getting a wristband by 1/2 hour
    2009: Arrive at 10AM, get a wristband
2008: Who the hell knows, I was hungover & don't remember
    2007: Arrive at 10AM, get your two whales...but it was mid-December & 9 below.

So you can draw your own probable conclusions!

I'm actually bringing my wife. This could prove to be a VERY bad idea but I just hope she freaks out at me about the 24 hours in the cold AFTER we each get our beer

Is the taproom open that night? It'd be nice to pop in for a pint of Furious, then a pour of .rar, and so forth.

What time do the bottles go on sale for the folks with wristbands?

I didn't see it on the FB event and I've typically just shown up for the afternoon and purchased my bottles that way.

I believe it starts at right away at 11 a.m, at least that's what I recall from last year. What time you are let in (to buy bottles) is dictated on your wristbands.

And just to refresh my memory, you line up to get wristbands that morning? And then line up again to buy bottles based on your wristband?

    Thanks!

No wristband needed in the afternoon for sure. 4 bottles per person at that point.

Last year we were told to line up around 8 a.m. Then stood in line for an hour. Seriously. Why? I don't know why. It felt rather mean and petty, frankly. Then they handed out wristbands. Once it's your allotted time to buy, there's very little wait, they're very organized.
