Had the accidentally soured Autumn Maple last year, it was pretty tasty stuff! But that was a cheap bottle. I can see how an expensive bottle that's infected would piss you off.

I can tell you that the 13 BT is tasting very good fresh.. I rarely age beers and have never had any issues, I worry that a slight infection may worsen with age..

Just to clarify my last post, in no way am I saying that there is anything wrong with the 13 BT... Great beer. I don't age any barrel beer much more than a year.

The line from The Bruery is that this year's Oak Sap is tart but not infected. This means White Chocolate or Melange 3 or Cacaonut are going to be tart but not actually infected.

I'm with you. 13 BT is ABSOLUTELY not infected. This beer is tasting excellent right now. I'm two bottles in of my three...I don't age either JWD.

This poses an obvious dilemma for anything that sells out quickly.

Good point. I guess you sadly have to take a risk at that point and hope it's not infected, and if it is, hope that they make up for it somehow.

This is probably a stupid question but I don't know much about infected beers. If an infection occurred does that mean that the entire batch is infected or is it possible for it to be isolated to some bottles?

It depends if the blend they entire batch with the infected barrels or not. Typically breweries do multiple batches and dump infected barrels if identified early. Bruery has had some bad luck lately or just being careless.

It's incredibly unacceptable that a brewery charging artisan prices like Bruery would ship infected beer. There's a level of hubris at that brewery that defies description.

No, it suffers from the same White Oak Sap as White Chocolate, so it's slightly tart.

The only confirmed infected beer this year was Ebony and Oak, and I actually liked it.

Mash, Mash and Grind, Chocolate Rain, BT, they're all fine.

Did you do the test? Always do the test before you buy imo

I hope Melange 3 isn't overly tart like WC. Cacaonut was more reasonable but I'd like to taste no tartness in the M3.

I just Emailed them the other day. Bought a bottle of Mischief a few weeks ago and it was flat. No date on the bottle anywhere. I was told Sorry but if you did not buy the beer from our store we cant do anything, sounds like it was real old, we will look into this. I was also told they laser etch all bottles with a date now. The bottles I saw today had no dates either. I understand its an $8 bottle but it was bad. I do not have my receipt so I cant make an attempt to return an empty bottle as the Bruery told me I should try to do.

Oh well. I will spend my money on other beers. Just picked up a six of Bells Old stock for less than 2 bottles of Mischief.

    Enjoy

At least The Bruery will happily give you a refund for your troubles. Most breweries would deny it, or say it was the customers fault for storing it wrong.

Good on them but replacing or refunding a defective product isn't exactly groundbreaking; it's something that should be expected.

In almost any business the separation between the aspiring and the big time is quality control. Could you imagine Firestone Walker or Sam Adams or Sierra Nevada letting not one but several lines of beer go out the door infected these days, much less without a recall? I know these are big time breweries but if you're expecting people to be dropping between twelve and forty bucks per 750ml off the strength of your brand I'd say that this stuff is out of bounds.

Getting infected beer used to be part of the deal with craft but patience is rightfully running out with a lot of people, myself included.

This wasn't slightly tart. It was vinegar strained through an old gym sock. I've had plenty of White Chocolate, and the Cocaonut was definitely off.
